At the August 8 meeting of the Â鶹¹ú²úAV Board, the Board welcomed new student Board Member Justine Chueh-Griffith, a senior at West Campus High School.
The Board heard an informational update on the Summer Matters programs that ran this summer from June 24 – July 2 serving TK through 12th grade students. Â鶹¹ú²úAV’s Summer Matters learning programs are designed to minimize summer learning loss and provide opportunities for academic intervention and enrichment.
The Board held public hearings on three petitions submitted by three charter schools to renew the term of their charter. The purpose of the public hearing is to consider the support for the petition from the district’s teachers, other employees, and Parents. Following the District’s review of each petition and the public hearing, the Board must either grant or deny the charter within 90 days of receipt of the petition.
- Growth Public Schools submitted a petition to renew the term of its charter, which expires on June 30, 2025. A decision to either grant or deny this petition is scheduled to occur at the September 5, 2024 Â鶹¹ú²úAV Board meeting.
- St. Hope Public School 7 submitted a petition to renew its charter which expires on June 30, 2025. A decision to either grant or deny this petition is scheduled to occur at the September 19, 2024 Â鶹¹ú²úAV Board meeting.
- Sacramento Charter High School 7 submitted a petition to renew its charter which expires on June 30, 2025. A decision to either grant or deny this petition is scheduled to occur at the September 19, 2024, board meeting.
The Board held a public hearing and took action to approve and adopt a developer fee justification study and an increase in developer fees that was recommended in the study. School districts assess fees on residential, commercial and industrial development to fund the construction and modernization of school facilities.
The Board took action to approve the District’s submission of credential waivers applications to the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing. The waiver requests pertain to Â鶹¹ú²úAV teachers who hold a California Preliminary Teaching Credential in their respective subject areas and are continuing to work towards their English Language Authorizations, Bilingual Authorization or Basic Skills Requirement. Approval of the waiver request will give the District additional options to fill vacant teacher positions.
