Special Education Parent Resources
Special Education Parent Resources
This page highlights resources and support for parents, guardians, and families of children with disabilities.
Students who are eligible to receive special education services are guaranteed a free and appropriate public education (FAPE). Federal, state, and local mandates provide a vast array of requirements that special educators must follow when implementing the programs designed to provide students with FAPE. These mandates are extensive and often confusing. The overall purpose of the Â鶹¹ú²úAV SELPA procedural guide is to provide personnel with a detailed resource for the implementation of special education procedures focused on the identification, assessment and appropriate provision of FAPE in the Least Restrictive Environment (LRE).
Â鶹¹ú²úAV Community Advisory Committee (CAC)
The Community Advisory Committee (CAC) acts in an advisory capacity to the Special Education Local Plan Area (SELPA). The Community Advisory Committee supports individuals with exceptional needs ages 0-22 years and their families who are served by the Â鶹¹ú²úAV. This committee provides an opportunity for parents, professionals and other community members to provide important input as it relates to our special education programs.
Â鶹¹ú²úAV SELPA utilizes the Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) process as an informal method of settling disagreements that may arise during an IEP meeting.
ADR uses specific options of this process to promote understanding, open communication, and satisfying solutions to conflict that support and strengthen relationships. ADR is designed to meet the interests of the parties involved that results in a crafted, mutually agreeable, outcome rather than living with a decision made by a third party, such as a hearing officer or judge.
